These are from my latest raid on the showcase at Salvation. They were there yesterday but I had to take a day to think about how badly I wanted them. They were expensive and I wanted to make sure they were a good buy and not over priced. I can't believe their condition which is absolutely perfect. Just some age related crazing in the glaze. They are a set marked 1250 and 1251, with slightly different markings on the bottom. The one dancer even has the original silver foil label on the side of her aqua skirt. You'll notice the reverse colors of their costumes but different faces and poses. They stand about 9" tall. There is one on ebay (the aqua one) and it has a price label from Higbee's on that piece. So these were sold in upscale department stores. I know our Higbee's at the mall (built in 1964) has been closed for over 20 years.
These were designed by Kathi Urbach for Goldcrest Ceramics a pottery company located in Trenton NJ from 1947 to 1953. They made mostly figurines and lamps. A rather short lived company which may account for the lack of information. -Mike-

Beautiful detail Mike, and it's great they are undamaged.

I might be on the wrong track here but I wonder if these were Japanese made?
The reason I say that is that in my trolling through Japanese sale sites I have seen a few figurines designed by Kathy Urbach (not these ones) and I wondered about them.

I couldn't see if yours say where made?

Thanks Karen :) I double checked the marks on the bottom.....The shield marks say "Goldcrest Fine China" USA and the other circular mark says Goldcrest Ceramics Corp. USA copyright.

These are absolutely lovely, Mike! I hope you find out more about them. Oddly, I know I've seen the Goldcrest mark before, on what I don't remember ...

Thanks Katherine :) I have to do a little more research using Goldcrest Fine China. That might lead me to some info about the company.

Hmm this is odd I'm not getting any e-mail notifications from my posts or when people comment. I didn't get the morning new post e-mail either. Don't know if a problem with yahoo or CW's server. Been like this since yesterday anyone else having a problem??
