Recently I've started to collect Silver Compacts and Cigarette cases.
This is a very simple, elegant design, but beautifully made Silver Cigarette case by Joseph Kopf. He was born in Estonia in 1867 and died in 1930. He founded is own work shop in 1891, in Tallinn Estonia. Later it produced many wonderful silver items until 1940 when the Soviets nationalised every thing.
This case was made after Joseph died. The Hallmarkings are a St Eliguis, 875, and a Lion for Tallinn, where it was made. These marks were used after 1928. Inside the box is a inscription which clearly says 27 XI 35 ( 27 November 1935).
Many thanks for looking
