    Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone knows the name of the manufacturer of this trunk, and approx. when it was made.
The hardware is stamped Patent 1880.
The only other identifiable mark is the artwork under the lid.
Please let me know if you have any knowledge of this trunk.
    Thank you!

Hi Jude. Which is trunk #711 on site. I have a trunk that is very similar to this that has been passed down to me through the family that plan to refurbish. I am being told it came with my Family four generations ago from Scotland. They were decedents of the Bruce family. Have you ever found out more as to the manufacturer or about this trunk? The hardware and markings are the same so thinking it is the same manufacturer I have.

This trunk has been referred to as a "monitor" or "waterfall" style. This was most likely made in the late 1890's to early 1900's. Without a label it is difficult to ascertain a maker as many companies made these. Hardware was purchased from an outside supplier and the hardware on this trunk can be found on many others which was typical for most trunks at the time. The lithographs on the lids were place for artistic effect with varying pictures of ladies or pastoral scenes - these lithographs were also outsourced. Hope this helps a bit...
