Today was one of those frustrating days .... found nothing in the oppies so I headed down to a local 'antique shop' for a look around. I left with three items and a much lighter wallet!
But I am happy with my buys ... and here is the first. It was the last thing I saw as I was leaving the shop. I picked it up and saw the UE symbol and the V.L.. "I'll take this one too ... how much is it?"
The U.E. is short for Upsala Ekeby. Sweden. A factory that had its beginnings in 1886 as a brick manufacturer. By 1918 it had become northern Europe's largest ceramic and tile factory. Gefle porcelain joined them in 1936 and Karlskrona later too.
Victor Emanuel Lindstrand (1904 - 1983) "known as Vicke Lindstrand was a Swedish glass designer, textile and ceramic designer, and painter. He is considered a pioneer of Swedish glass art.
Orrefors could not afford to keep Lindstrand during the war and between 1943 and 1950 he became creative leader at Uppsala Ekeby, where he designed many different stoneware objects ranging from pots to figural sculptures." - Wikipedia.
The factory closed in 1977.
From what I have read the Fungo series was devised in 1949 and was produced until 1955. This vase is one of series at least 11 objects. This one is numbered 3007 as its design code.
Dimensions: 10 x 8 cm.
Better still the teeth are all perfect on its rim!

Your very welcome Kevin!!! I don't blame ya for wanting have more!!
a beauty vet !!
Eye catching and interesting. There's something that distinguish it from other ceramics, perhaps thanks to the designer and his involvement in glass rather.
All in all not so bad day :-)

It turned out to be a very good day !!!!
Great find Vet! I just want to hold this - that glaze! Those teeth! The texture!
Many thanks KAREN. The teeth really are quite sharp. Very touchy-freely. The usual use of the UE creamy-white glaze over the dark brown biscuit. Some pieces also have the UE yellow inside too. I'm going to look carefully today and see if this one needs an inside clean to reveal som colour within.
Many thanks DON !!!!!!
