Hello!
I picked this up at a vintage chic place out in Maryland. I thought it looked pretty cool although I'm totally unsure what it's original use was. I'd love to find out if anyone has an idea! it seems to be some sort of tool box as far as I can tell.
Thanks!!
Pretty safe bet it was made as a tool chest -- I see alot of them in Quebec of various shapes and sizes.... often they were home made utilitarian pieces suited to the profession of the tradesman. Nice piece -- welcome to Collector's Weekly and thanks for the post!
aha! thank you for the info! now I need to figure out what to do with it! any suggestions regarding cleaning it up? perhaps mounting it on some feet on its side and making a coffee table out of it? maybe a liquor cabinet with some modification?
It is most likely plywood underneath -- so no sense stripping the paint off - (unless you can tell that it is pine) -- so cleaning the piece nicely and if you want a bit of a shine to it you could varnish it. Maybe clean up the metal trim with steel wool. Its a fun piece that you can do whatever you like -- make it yours!
