More items from my deco collection. Here is a bevy of "Spherical Miracle" carafes, circa 1939. These are all 5 colors that were produced with chrome bases and handles. The top of the spheres are enameled (except for the black one, which is reversed) and have matching stoppers. The black and chrome combination is the most common, and I've only seen the other pastel, Easter egg colors a handful of times. This great design for such a utilitarian object was created by the American Thermos Bottle Company in Norwich Connecticut. Advertised as the "Thermosphere," this design is often attributed to famed industrial designer, Raymond Loewy. However, it was in fact designed by Arthur H. Payson (US Patent No. 2,176,012).
