Ok, so I have started! I'm getting to know this trunk very intimately. I have been dreaming of living in older days. . . Maybe I need more ventilation in my shop! Hahahaha, anyway, I'm just showing some process and the progression so far. The last picture is what I have chosen for the final. Danish dark walnut oil and I will be waxing the drawers. It's going to be beautiful!!! I am not removing anything just working around and with what I have, to keep the old world feel to it.
to those of you who get in hrad first with your legs contorted and back heavily mishapen, just to get those pesky threads that no one but you will see. . . . Kudos, and pat yourself on the back if you haven't gone mad yet!
The 3rd pic is the same as the 4th. Same drawer just more loved. Sorry I can't seem to get some of my pictures to turn the right way. That's not how they are in my photo alblum.
I've never seen a trunk like this before, very cool piece. The drawer you have done is beautiful - you will have to post photos when you have completed this.
Have fun!
Thank you so much!!!
If your drawer is any indication this is going to look fantastic!! Nice choice of stain -- I always find it hard to select and have to redo a few times... looking forward to seeing the finished product!
This is just a wonderful trunk. I've wanted one ever since I started collecting trunks several years back. I've yet to come across one in my area.
Thank you jscott0363, this trunk is taking a long time. Everything is covered in duck cloth, twice! It doesn't need any repairs, it's just so tedious. And I have decided to hand rub the stain AND wax of the interior. It just looks awesome. On the outside I will be using tung oil after I stain it.
Sometimes though I look at it in all of its original beauty and think "what am I doing"? And then I remember the cloth is moldy and damaging the wood. So it's best to continue. I hope to keep it from looking to redone. And I would like it to last another 100 years.
Very anxious to see your finished product. Trunks ARE my passion!!!
Thanks again jscott0363! : )
