I was told that this sea chest belonged to an ancestor who immigrated from England. I think if I can find out the aprox. age of it, I could narrow down which one it was. Can anyone help with this?
Thank you.
Your trunk is an American made travel trunk. This shape is most often referred to as a Jenny Lind. You can read about it here,
http://www.hmsantiquetrunks.com/how-the-jenny-lind-trunk-got-its-name.html
The bands on your trunk are Iron covered with a thin layer (.007) of Brass thus making your trunk a "brass banded Jenny Lind" These were generally made only until the early 1870's and yours is most likely from the early 1860's to early 1870's. It could be earlier, but hard to tell without the original interior, or a picture of the handles. What are the dimensions of the trunk? Hope this helps,
Jim
