This is my C.A, Taylor trunk it is 52 " long x 21" tall x 21 " wide. It was covered in what looked like roofing tar. It was used for a large cello and smelled real bad inside. You could tell this was custom made for someone. It was pretty torn up inside and I did a no no. I removed the interior and refinished the whole trunk. I did not feel it was much good for storage the way it was. This trunk was evil to refinish and I will never tackle another one. The cloth used was very thick and cutting around all that hardware was a chore. They used some really good glue. The project took me around 200 hrs The bass wood body stained better than expected and I was pleased that the plywood top that was used took the same stain color. All the metal including nails had to be scraped of tar as well as the oak strapping, the bottom also had to be scraped. It makes for a nice coffee table and sits in my living room.
Great job - sit back and admire your efforts. It is a lovely trunk!
Its a beautiful trunk and you did a magnificent job on the refinish -- sounds like you had to wrestle this one to the ground....
A nice taylor trunk is one of the few left on my wish list... do not see any of them up here for some reason.
That glue is my favorite, designed to make you curse a lot. Nice Job !
