This Japanese crate was probably used for ammo. It is well made, and has kanji on the front and rear, with two sturdy handles on the side. This crate was liberated by an American soldier named Don, who was a member of the 32nd Division, known as the Red Arrow Division. The inside cover has an address to a base in San Francisco, and he also added a personal touch, a nude line drawing. The name Don is also written with pencil on the side of the box. Many times U.S. troops used these captured boxes to send home souvenirs.

I also just picked up a Japanese crate, my first IJA item. I live in Big Rapids, MI where two regiments of the 32nd were mustered. I hoping to find more details on the items and sure hope it's a bring back from the Red Arrow! Did you meet the gentleman who brought this back? Thanks for your time!

Therewasatime1939, unfortunately I did not meet the vet who brought it back. I have a larger Japanese ammo crate that I will list at a later time. It was sent back from somewhere in the Pacific 1n 1943, to an address in Chicago. It just so happened that the address was only three blocks away from my house in Chicago at the time.
