I just completed this small leather stagecoach trunk. It's made of 90% leather and in very fine condition for its' age. Check out the fine leather tooling on the top. This would be from around the 1860 period or possibly older.
This trunk is nearly 100% complete, with the exception of the leather dust flap that strapped down over the lock during travel. Unfortunately, those are most always missing. Both handles are in beautiful condition.
The lock is complete, with the exception of the missing key. Even the brass key hole cover is fully intact. The interior is 100% complete. All of the fabric lining and drop down compartment is intact.
While cleaning this one, I discovered that the name and address of the original owner is still etched into the leather on one end. It appears to be:
E.F. DULLON
NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT .
I try to imagine the person who owned this and the hard travels this has seen. I can't even imagine us having to travel that way today.
Anyway, thank you for dropping by and having a look!!
Scott
Nice trunk is that a pentagram or ? On top.
Thanks Caperkid!! No, that would be a star.
OK does it mean anything or just decoration.
I'm not really sure. It could just be a trademark of the trunk maker.

Another great trunk Scott and I love the leather work. Nicely lubricated too - good job!
As a non-trunky I am always amazed by everyone's trunks and, like you, think of the stories they could tell.
In Australia this trunk might have seen a bushranger....
What a thing of beauty!
Karen, Thank you for the very kind compliment!! Riddle me this, what is a bushranger?

Bushrangers were Australian outlaws who held up coaches.
Prevalent in the mid 1800s, particularly in gold mining areas.
Jscott, you posted another beauty!
Love the decor and patina on it :-D
Hi Scott, your trunks are wonderful, thanks for posting. You must have a lot of space to keep all these great pieces.
Karen, Thank you for educating me on that. Being from the states, I'd just never heard that term "Bushranger". I've learned something new today! Thanks again.
Kyra, Thanks so much for the wonderful comment. And thanks for the love and stopping by. Always appreciated!!
Jean, Thank you for the awesome compliment! I keep a lot of my trunks in my shop, except for the really rare ones. But, my house has trunks sitting around in every room on display. I do need to start getting rid of some though.
Thank you so much for the love and for taking time to stop by and admire my trunk. Always appreciated!!
