This is a pretty little 6"w shallow dish/saucer , I think in imari pattern from Japan .(stood corrected as I'm not up on oriental) ..
The picture of a garden with flowers and a tree . I'm unsure what the large red area is at the top ??
The base is not marked but has patterns arond the sides and three rings in blue .. the inside has slight indentation in the centre ,
It's also quite heavy for its size .

Very nice Surf.... you are spot on . I have several Imari plates with different decors. Also know as Arita ware. Late 19th into the first decade of the 20th century. Meiji period to 1912.

Lovely piece, and I agree with rucklezglass, it reminds me of a rising phoenix (rebirth/new) within a flower. It seems to stem from the garden beneath. Perhaps the artists interpretation of start of Spring? Just a thought. :)

It’s a completely separate element in the design, isn’t it? The stylized three-lobe shape evokes the leaves of a paulownia mon. (A ‘mon’ in Japanese heraldry going back to feudal ages is a symbol or mark of a dynastic family. It would be on flags and banners, armour, clothing of all the clan’s servants and soldiers, etc.)
Mon are still very much in modern use . The company logo of Mitsubishi Motors is a mon, for example. The paulownia mon in ancient times was exclusively for the imperial family, but after the emperors switched to the chrysanthemum, the paulownia has been used as a symbol of the Japanese Prime Minister, and of the government, so it’s a familiar shape.

this might be paradigma fallacy mikelven is maybe comparing the wrong garlands
the garlands look 1860 ties
excuse to mikelven the kamahi is missing and the kilnspurs are missing , some type 5 color burgundy
i think it's the Paulonia Mon as an umbrella or overarching principal. it's Imari and anything to get those big splotches works.
i got a far fetched assumption , they stylised an Hou-ou
