OK, I know some of you may be looking at this and thinking "Hadeland??" I certainly did! But bear with me for a minute and I'll explain.
I actually assumed this piece was Czech when I first saw it. It wasn't marked so there were a few options. There are similar shapes in both Murano and Czech glass. But the price was right and I wasn't overly concerned about the ID. I just liked the form and the colors.
Then I saw this auction item (see live link below). Now I'm genuinely confused.
I realize that people sometimes add stickers to art glass to change the ID but the question I have in this case is...why?? Would a Hadelend sticker really increase the value of a piece like this? The other items online tagging this form as Hadeland didn't seem to be listed that way before the stickered item came up for sale.
Thanks for looking and letting me know what you think! Brett

I have a few Hadeland pieces .... all signed. I really don't know whether everything was signed or not. My other thought is that none seems to have bitten yet on the sticker end example. Hadeland people are pretty canny.
the one on ebay has a lighter blue base & 'wings'. The beak appears sharper, and the lighter color base is deeper (larger?). Each is hand blown, so that could account for minor differences. Your wings do not appear to be the same size, and appear to be a bit pebbly, not completely smooth. Of course - it could be camera, etc.
Thanks for the love and the comment, Kevin! I certainly wouldn't have purchased mine as a Hadeland piece with only a sticker if it had been presented to me that way. My Hadeland pieces are all signed as well and I can't imagine that a piece like the one on eBay wouldn't have been.
Thanks for the comment, Celiene! I'm sorry for the bad pictures. I'll try to add better if I can. I was trying to capture the colors but didn't have any shots that showed the dimensions of the purple 'wings' very well. The area that appears almost dark grey in the first picture is all part of the purple layer and extends fully around the blue as it does in the link. Some of the other examples of this piece online appear shorter and wider although the description for each one indicates they're all about the same size and proportions.
Thanks, ho2cultcha!
If it's Hadeland it is indeed a rare piece being unsigned.
The two on Ebay presently are both unsigned and I wonder if one got their ID from the other.
WJ did do some cased stuff a bit like this but I agree these both look Czech.
(but....I am definitely NOT a Hadeland expert)
Thanks, Karen. I agree that it would be really unusual to see an unsigned piece, especially one this size. I think I have five pieces (which doesn't make me much of an expert either!) and all are signed with Hadeland and the designer's initials. The funny thing is the actual penguin vases by WJ (different shape and color scheme) are all signed as far as I know. The Hadeland stickers I've seen on those are the ones with the capital K:

Do I have one of these?
In the first photo the beak on your penguin looks sharp, but not on other photos. If I'm seeing right, it looks like an eye on the one in the link you posted. (No puns intended). The one in the catalogue looks more like yours, the eye doesn't looks dangerous at all.
Should've stayed in bed. I meant the beak doesn't look dangerous.
Hey, eye - thanks for the love! I don't remember seeing you post one of these. But I have three of them so there aren't many left for anyone else to buy. : )
Hey, Gillian - thanks for stopping by and looking! The beaks on mine are all fairly pointed but each vase looks a little different in color and detail. I still think the blue ones are Czech but all I can find online are the questionable references to Hadeland. Jury's still out...
