I took a quick run into the Oberlin Goodwill and found this with the other clear glass flower vases. Things are finally getting back to normal after the holidays. This piece has been flashed with a nice cranberry color over a slightly iridescent clear body. It's a bit paler that the typical ruby red flashing. The designs are acid etched. One side has a castle landscape. The other side has a stag in a fenced enclosure with trees. The sides have identical Rococo or Baroque panels with a single deep wheel cut and polished oval accent. The top rim is cut flat and polished. There's no damage to the glass chip wise but lots of little scratches in the flashing. It's pretty common for older pieces of this type. I'm fairly sure this is a Bohemian piece but not too sure of it's age. I'd guess turn of the century to early 20th. -Mike-
Very nice, Mike!
Thanks Bonnie :)
Very pretty mike:)
Thank you Caper :)
I love these.....every glass collector should have one. Originally made by Egermann, they are still being made in Novy Bor. Mine is modern.....not much wear on the base!!!
Thank you Sklo :)...I had seen the reference to the Egermann ones online. Not sure how old this one is, but it does have a thin greyish wear line around the edge of the base.
Mikelv85, it looks like you found a matching one to mine:) The way it is decorated sounds exactly the same!
I remember that post Freiheit :)...took another quick look to compare. Thanks for the "love".
Yep, missed it.
I really love this. It is so far removed from an Australian aesthetic and my Japanese glass.
Good one Mike!
Thanks Karen... I think you've given us all a new appreciation for Japanese glass. :)
