I purchased this sugar & creamer on eBay. I have seen other Depression Glass "Art Deco" sugar & creamers (S&C) before like the Indiana Glass Company's "Cracked Ice" and "Tea Room" patterns. I've never seen this one before ? I call it the "Flash Gordon" S&C because of the "lightning bolt" handles. The engravings on the glass are different too. They are both 3 1/2" tall. The base diameter(s) are 2 1/2". The upper diameter(s) are 3 1/8". Can anyone shed any light on who made these ? The color ? The pattern engraved onto the glass ? The time period (circa) ?
Cambridge #1096 'Decagon'; sometimes called 'lightning' handled c1930. The etch is #731 'Rosalie'. not sure if Cambridge had specific name for the green color.
Dear Tall Cakes,
Wow, that was fast. As we say here in Boston, "You're 'smaht' (smart)". Now, if I remember my Junior High School geometry--isn't a "decagon" a 10 sided object ? Or does it mean the last decade has past ;-) ? 'Rosalie' ? I wonder if Cole Porter had written his song of the same name by that time ? Thanks.
it's easier to see the 10 sides in other pieces of this pattern; like the plates. according to Wikipedia Cole cut his Rosalie track in 1937... : )
