Can anyone tell me what this is and what it was used for and its origin?
It looks to be made of ivory, but not sure. 97mm x 11mm

Look like it might have been a Victorian Stanhope pin holder. A Stan-hoscope.

      A snuff bottle, perhaps?

Ricko ... take a close look in the hole in the end and see if there is a tiny lens with a small image (micro photograph). If you see a lens and image, this is a Stanhope. Here is my post of a folding knife with a Stanhope: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/138013-1890s-enameled-anheuser-busch-corkscrew

Here is another post of a needle case with a Stanhope. It looks like yours: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/177003-antique-needle-case-with-a-stanhope

Finally, here is a terrific article written by CW staffer Hunter Oatman-Stanford about Stanhopes: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/articles/secrets-of-the-worlds-tiniest-photographs/

OOH OOH! Tell us what the picture is!

Stanhope - my thing I learned today! And it's not even noon!

Thanks to all. rniederman was totally correct. Although very blurry I could see some photos inside.
