An early version of the classic desk phone. This one was made by Automatic Electric and is known as the AE 40 Monophone.
These were made starting in 1939 and sold until the early 1950s. They are Bakelite and are a bit heavy. s I am used to the Western Electric phones I keep try to reach under the handset to pick it up but that does not work. See the second photo with the ski slope back end. It is a bit heavy at over 6 pounds. That and the lack of handy way to pick it up led to its demise I am thinking. It is a very stylish phone though with many art deco touches and triangular side view. I do have another bedroom set piece where I will be making a display for it and other pieces.
I'm back for my second look at this! What is it about telephones that attracts me so much? Maybe because I remember using a dial phone, lol. Great piece!
Thank you very much cindyjune. Did spend a lot of time using those.

I sold a bunch of salesman's brochures etc. to the Telephone Museum in California on the AE system! Schematics, router info, telephone lines etc,. etc. They were really happy to get them because the building burned down last summer and they are trying to repopulate the museum. They lost everything.
I'll post the pics.
Thank you very much Celiene. Saw that about the museum very sad. Glad to hear they are going to rebuild. I'll bring them something if I get up that way.
Thank you
