    Hello CW friends!

I just completed this large English leather steamer trunk. This one is very close to the design of the previous one I posted, but much larger. In my opinion, this one turned out a bit better than the last one.

This trunk was made in England in the very early 1900's and was made primarily for traveling on steamships as they are perfect size for sliding under your steamship bunk. This would have been a very high end trunk in its' day and made quite well.

This is made entirely of very high quality leather and and assembled with many copper rivets. It has three steel bands inside the lid to help prevent crushing and allowing the lid to retain its' shape. I'm only accustomed to seeing that in the high end Sole Leather trunks from the 1800's. It measures 36" long, 22" wide and a bit over 13" tall. It's rather heavy and weighs over 40 lbs empty.

This trunk once belonged to Mr. And Mrs. Albert B. Jacob of Hilltop Farm, Jamaica, VT and still retains the initials A.B.J. on the trunk lid. I'll post the interior pics in my next post.

Thanks for stopping in to have a look!!

    Scott

Great find and nice job cleaning her up, Wondering the manufacturer? Looks a lot like a Finnigans model.
      Any thoughts Scotto?

      Drill,
Thanks! I've seen two that look nearly identical in every way to this one. The first was a Brooks Brothers and the other was a John Pound. Sou, I wonder if the manufacturer of this one also manufactured for these two companies as well. What do you think?

As we know hard to say with out a label, Always amazes me that a manufacturer of
this high a quality of item, would not take the time to label their product. Yes I did
think of those manufactures as well .They all made similar items and utilized similar hardware that was available for the time period.

      Yep, I totally agree Drill!!
