This is of my 'set-up' at annual training the summer of 1996 in North Florida (Camp Blanding).................man it was HOT !
I decided to modify the posting that had been up for six months because it offended a person who was retired Navy .
I have remove the photo taken in my dress uniform. I hope that beachbomb is happy .

I was born and partially raised in Jacksonville, Florida. My step dad used to take me hunting in there many times. Brings back alot of good memories. Also, like the way you keep people straight on here when necessary ! Keep up the good work. Semper Fi, Thrifty Gypsy

Thanks Rev. and Thrifty. I just like to follow the rules !

Umm regg...Yeah some do care.I work in a plumbing supply and occasionally someone comes in with their remembrance whether a hat or a teeshirt or special license plate proudly displayed and I will ask for the honor of shaking the hand of a member of society that risked their life for our country.I don't agree with all wars but that doesn't take away from the sacrifice you've all made.I may look like a hippy but I am an American to the end.On that note I would like to say Thank You to all who have served.Your sacrifice is greatly appreciated by any red blooded American and the rest can move the Hell out !!!!!!!!!!!!!
13. ThriftyGypsy ThriftyGypsy, 13 years ago
I also care Hedgewalker ! I support the Wounded Soldier Project and proudly fly the U.S. flag and support every troop deployed, and at home ready when needed. I am an old Marine who will never forget ! It is not always about the war.... but the soldier's sacrifice. Semper Fi - Thrifty Gypsy

regg243, I feel the same way as you on some things..... seems like there is never any coverage on t.v. anymore..... just garbage most of the time. Just remember that there are people like us that thank you for what you have done. I don't know why things are the way they are, but remember that some of us keep up with what is going on. I have several freinds overseas, and I pray for all troops former and past. Semper Fi Brother.

regg243-- if your brother was a reserve call up and had a loss in income he could apply under the Civil Relief Act provisions, which protects against foreclosure due to a loss in income.
18. Hedgewalker Hedgewalker, 13 years ago
scott has a good point there regg...check this out.

Hey Guys:
I joined during Peace Time and i would go to fight today. You are all right, No one gives a S--- about the vet. I have several medical problems and all they want me to do is die. But i'm to D--- stubborn to go that quietly!!!! I admire the ones who have gone over had thier A-- shot at and all because they thought it was the right thing to do. That is the reason i joined; it was the right thing to do!!! God bless all of you and i truly appreciate you giving of your selfless service. regg243 tell your Bro. I thank him and am praying for him and his family.

I thought this website was for "The Best of Vintage and Antiques", not pictures of ourselves, flawnting about what we have done in our lives. That's what facebook is for. The responses you are receiving Pops, are in part your fault for making this posting. I am a 21 year U.S. Navy Submariner (retired), and I also appreciate your service and anyone else who has served. God bless you all!

as far as i can see we are on topic. It is a pic of a serviceman. are there not a division for pictures? With that comes us talking about the pic, the history of wartime and thse who served. Am i right or wrong?
34. regg243, 13 years ago
I just wanted to know if you served in a combat zone, sorry for the ruckus!
Funny, I walked through an antique store today and looked at a medal in the box that stated: Medal for good service. The medal was in the original award box with the ribbon; etc, and was asking $5.00 for it. I ask the person who was selling the medal what it was and meant. He stated he didn't care, just a dollar sign and military stuff sells well. I then stated to him: The medal was a "Meritorious Service" medal and I have one. Would you believe he asked how much I would take for it? I didn't say a thing... just walked away.

Military items are popular-- modern and old.

$5 is a very reasonable price on any medal set.

Hello ,I am a new member of this site and had a question regarding some items I was thinking of posting . My great uncle was RAN LDG Stoker 1 on the HMAS Perth, which was sunk in the Sunda Strait in Feb 1942. He was not one of the survivers. We only have a few of his items . A copy of his service records ,photo, etc my question is do I have to worry about any personal information on his service record being public ? Ive seen other people with old photos being warned about people stealing them and the like so Im curious ? I didnt know where else to ask this and assumed as most of you seem to be military I thought youd be the group to ask . Thank you for any advice
37. Pop_abides Pop_abides, 13 years ago
This is a public web site. That being said I would make sure to blank out or cover any thing that would be very personal such as a social security number. Since you are talking about 1942 I wouldn't think there would be too much to worry about but thten again I posted a pic of my fathers I.D. card which contained his S.S. number aand I blocked it out (He was born in 1915) so I say use prudence when posting things............Thanks for asking and remember that the site IS PUBLIC !

Thank you for your advice Pop ,Ill try to get them up soon as I can .

Wow for real? How hard is it really to just get along?
42. Pop_abides Pop_abides, 13 years ago
Thanks Vestawind, but it seems I've picked up a Stalker. As far as I can see they have not posted anything except comments.
43. Vestaswind Vestaswind, 13 years ago
What some people fail to realize is when they do this on a site such as this it's not just between two people but hundreds that read it. Beach I do not know what the problem is here but if something bothers you SO bad don't read it, or go over the the eBay forums where this stuff seems to be the norm.
44. beachbomb beachbomb, 13 years ago
My issue is that 90% of Pop's comments/replies to other peoples postings are very negative and degrading. I open a posting to see what the poster has to say about their item, and then, there is Pop's negative attitude comment. I know this has to annoy others also, so his negative comments are also seen by hundreds , as to your quote, "hundreds read it".
45. Vestaswind Vestaswind, 13 years ago
It must be a "guy thing" meaning on stuff I don't see according to my collections. As for me when people post that grate on my nerves I never to back to the post. Life is just too darn short :)
46. Pop_abides Pop_abides, 13 years ago
Yup I have better things to do. Thanks Vestawind for keeping me straight.

Regg243:
I read your post on the medal. i bought one like it a few years ago. It is so sad that these awards and medals lose there personal value after the one it was presented to is most of the time gone. I teach my two grandsons just like i taught my son that freedom has a cost and to live every day as if someone died for it. (they did). As Cpt. Miller told Pvt. Ryan after the Last battle, EARN THIS!!! I didn't see combat and m thankful. If i could, i would go and fight today right beside any of our service people. I have such a high respect for them and you and pop for that matter. If people don't like the forum then you have good ol'
AMERICAN FREEDOM, SO LEAVE!!!!!
48. revdave revdave, 13 years ago
as for the medal i bought, i put it up. it deserved more respect than what it was getting.

I read your blog and I think after some year person who got medal will not receive the same respect as he was receiving when he got that medal.Property Preservation Processes
