I picked this beauty up at a salvage place in Berkeley today. i paid more than i normally would for it, but i love the decoration on it! i've seen some similar pieces somewhere and now begins my research - the fun part!
Very interesting famille vert item. I'm guessing it was made with input from several individuals that where younger potters. Maybe kind of a friendship bowl. Would not be surprised if it was from the aristocratic days of China. I think that's 1710-1740ish.
interesting observations Collectomaniac! i don't think it is famille verte, but famille rose. although there are different definitions used, it is generally accepted that the opaque glazes you see in this piece are typical of the glazes used in famille rose. famille verte uses more translucent glazes and according to some experts, only pieces which are kangxi, can be considered famille verte. i think that it is more likely to be Tongzhen or Republic [1912-1949], but i could be wrong.
i meant to say Tongzhi.
Love the colours..bright!...:-)
Famille rose colors are mainly pink??
Famille rose (French: “rose family”) is the group of Chinese porcelain wares characterized by decoration painted in opaque overglaze rose colors, often involving shades of pink and carmine.
often, but not always. the color of aqua here is not a famille verte color. too opaque. i'm pretty certain that this is famille rose and not famille verte. thanks DizzyDave!
this is real but it is guangxu not tongzhi , lets say i have seen better
