Born in New Zealand in 1944 Rynne trained as a teacher in New Zealand teaching himself pottery as part of an art elective. After training at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology he was offered a job teaching at the Launceston Art School and has remained there for 24 years. He and Bernadine Alting now run the Underwood Pottery studio just outside Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. He is well known for his crackle glazes, but has now diversified into crystalline glazes.
This plate combines the heat craquelure technique and a landscape called 'Bush'.
