Hello fellow collectors!!
Since we're only able to add four photos to each post, I'm continuing my early 1800's soft top leather stagecoach trunk post.
This is the interior of that particular trunk. As you can see, the access door, inside the lid, would drop down and you could place articles of clothing or your laundry inside the the lid. This created the soft top for you to sit on, as you can see in the 3rd photo.
The trunk and interior are still in fine condition to be 200 years old. Hope you like it as much as I do!
Thanks again for stopping in to have a look!!

Many thanks to you all!!!
I've been doing the two part post myself. It really does take two for trunks and suit cases.
fortapache,
Yep, you're absolutely right. Some items do take two posts. Wish we could post more than four pics at a time.

Scott, this is a very beautiful and very well-preserved trunk! Question: I read on one site that the smell of old trunks resides primarily in the lining/interior (mold, etc), and to get rid of it, one must strip and replace it. What do you do in cases like that when the interior is in good shape? How do you remove the smell or do you just let it be?
Anna,
Thanks so much!! It's really tough to get around that "Old" smell inside the old trunks. In some cases I've actually taken a small amount of cedar oil (few drops on a rag) and wipe down the interior with it. That has worked well for me in many cases. Other than that, the only option is to strip out the interior and polyurethane the interior and/or reline the interior. Hope this helps.
Thank you, Scott, for the great tip. So how did you go about this particular trunk where the original interior is preserved?
Anna,
I've actually done nothing to this interior. It's 100% original and odor free. So, I got very lucky with this one.

Robert Burr seems to have made many of this style of soft top trunk with this interior wood bar.
Scott, the blog spot date is March 25,2011 I can't get the link to post.interesting trunk reproduction read.
Drill,
I love the links and the website as well. The trunks shown look very close to my soft top trunk here. Wonderful!! Thanks so much for passing these along. Much appreciated as always!!!!
