    I picked this up at the flea market today. i think it's pretty old and very pretty, but i don't know anything about it. i hope to find out more about it by posting it here and on the FB Japanese Ceramics page.

      I would say Japanese Imari because of the fabric panel inserts and the blue. I usually think orange red backgrounds with gold decoration for Kutani pieces. :)

      i love the cartouches of the dancing red-capped crane dancing in the garden!

      i see kakeimon colors and some elements - like the branches / buds, the white space, but i also see the encroachment of the million medallions from meiji. could it be a transitional piece - early to mid- 1800s?

      Please do kerry10456! i've been told that it is definitely NOT kakiemon, but that it is Imari - probably mid 19th century.
