Hello fellow collectors!!
This is another one of my French made hat trunks. This one is from around the 1920 to 1930 period. It's still in pretty good condition, considering it's age. It still retains it's original tray and drop in webbed basket that most French hat trunks are known for.
I thought that this trunk was black when I bought it. But, after some intense cleaning, I found that it's actually navy blue. The interior is in nice condition, short of the unfortunate stain on the inside of the lid. But, the quilted lid and ribbon design are still quite beautiful, despite the stain.
It still has a couple of travel stickers remaining and the one on the side is the most readable and clearly says Paris. The one on the top says California. So, this trunk would have traveled back and forth from Paris to California at one time or another.
It's not a Louie Vuitton, but still a very high quality made French hat trunk.
Thanks for stopping to have a look!!!!
Scott
Nothing better than to wake up to another beauty -- nice find! Any marking on that latch other than SDG? Definitely a premium trunk...
trunkman,
Thanks so very much!!! The only marking on the lock, other than SGDG, are the letters BH or BA. So, I'm not sure who the manufacturer of this one is. Any suggestions?
Thanks very much for the appreciations

Wonderful French hat trunk,Scott. She has nice Jewelry as the French say of the brass hardware. Incidentally I have seen this leather binding with that pattern used by Aux Etats Unis, as well as Au Touriste. Having said that ,those two higher end manufacturers tended to label their respective trunks. You know the deal as far as labels are concerned. When they are not there one can only speculate .As for the Ba,Bh? that is more than likely the lock manufacturer's makers mark. This lock being used quite extensively as well as the mark .Nice to see the top leather handle survive father time. Great post pal.
Lo ve it Scotty this size is perfect
Drill,
Thanks very much!! I do appreciate the manufacture's info. Actually, this one doesn't have brass hardware. It's nickel plated instead, but sort of shows up as brass in the pics. Did you get a chance to check out my other French trunk that I posted earlier this week. Just wanted to get your opinion of that on as well. Thanks again friend!!!!
Roy,
Thanks buddy!! It is definitely a perfect size and much easier to display than the really huge trunks that I have.
Thanks for the appreciations

fleafinder,
Thanks very much! In my opinion, it's about the same quality as a LV, just doesn't have the LV name on it. Thanks for the love and for stopping by. Always appreciated!!!
FatBoy,
Thanks very much for the appreciation and for stopping by. Many thanks friend!
A beautiful hat trunk and great that it's complete! Everyone knows the LV name, but many other trunk makers (French and American) made great trunks, just not as well known to us today.
Marvin,
Thanks! I love them when they're complete like this one. I got this one pretty cheap and was able to clean it (except for the stain on the inside of the lid). Thanks for the comment, the appreciation and for stopping in. Always appreciated!!!
