I suppose this might be called a 'knuckle' vase. Certainly I've not seen one like this before. The top has been shaped by hand and is quite irregular.

Information provided below, by welzebub and Jericho, has led me to believe that this vase is Welz production.

    Height 26 cm./10.25 inches

Yes - looking like a Kralik knuckle bowl to me. Lovely.

Thank you, Ian, pleased you like it.

But, then, Welz had some knuckled shapes and maybe more akin to this. Some of their footed compotes are not a million miles from this.

I'm not sure it's either, Ian. The cobalt rim is irregular in diameter and inconsistent in application. I'd expect better from either of them.....or was the rim trim applied by someone trained but new to the task.

Such a wonderful, unique vase Peggy! What I really love is the irregularity of the top! Excellent pics, especially number two :-)

Thank you, Rick, I'd never seen the like before. I do have others with hand formed rims but not this shape

I really appreciate everyone who clicks, Love it, but unfortunately I no longer have the free time I once had to thank each of you personally.

I am curious if this piece has a pontil mark or not?
    9. sklo42 sklo42, 8 years ago
Deeply dished but no pontil mark.

breat piece - based on the rim piping I believe its welz

Thank you, jericho :) The picture Craig referred to above is in a known Welz décor, basically the same shape, but with five 'knuckles' rather than four. So between the two of you I think it's more than likely solved!
