trunkman
(149 items)
A Louis Vuitton Men's travel trunk circa 1920's (guessing).
Okay I figure if I see Vuitton trunk for under a grand I should go for it -- shoot first ask questions later. This came up today so I took the "trunk run". Now the interior needs a complete redo -- good news is that everything is there. The leather -- well -- rough shape but again its all there and all intact. I will have to take the leather hinges off and rework the frame somehow for it to close properly. For now I just cleaned it up a bit. The leather has darkened to black or dark brown -- well much to think about. I want to say this is a rare trunk but everyone who has an LV says theirs is rare. The handles say Louis Vuitton London -- and are both there and both intact. Well Js -- this is a winter project!!! If anyone knows a bit more about this trunk I would be delighted to hear from you!
Pure eye candy T-man!!!! I love this one. That leather looks to be in pretty good shape to me. I've still yet to acquire my first Louie, but once I get my two boys through college, well, who knows. Perhaps I'll take the plunge and treat myself to one.
This LV is quite unique looking. I've seen a lot of LVs on the web, but I've never seen one like this. You have quite a jewel there! My winter project is an oil cloth covered wicker trunk. Should prove to be a lot of fun:)
Nice find T-man and I would have made that trunk run as well. I've never seen a Louie under a grand before.
Very far from impossible for you trunkman, I am sure this piece will sparkle when you finish with it.
Great catch.
Regards
Alan
Thanks so much js and Alan3210 -- sometimes I stretch myself a bit beyond my comfort zone -- working on this will be one of those times. The interior looks ratty but it makes for a simple decision to replace all the linen which will make a complete transformation and it is not moldy smelling so that's a good thing. I will see how I fare. It is a fairly big trunk. Nothing ventured nothing gained....
Very nice T-man, Leather LVs under a G, extremly hard to come by,Yes a rare style that you don't see very often. These in pristine condition fetch "stupid money" on the auction block. As for the restore.Food for though: I think I would seek out the guidance of a French restoration pro like Rolland at LaMallencoin.com. As he has one of the largest collections of high end LVs. Interior restorations can
add or subtract to it's value based on how they are done.Much luck.
Thanks so much Drill - I have some homework on how to proceed with this one. The initial low investment gives me some breathing space. As an aside I hope to pick up another French maker trunk this week -- maker is Amand Pasquier, from the same guy I bought this one from -- he has a barn chucked full of old trunks most just standard issue though except for this French one.
Another incredible trunk! You and Scott seem to have a knack for finding the most amazing trunks. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you're done. I always struggle with leather.
Incidentally T-man I have only found this label on the finer leather trunks. I can't wait to see your next acquisition. Please post a picture of the label( if it has one )for this Junky as we all know that they are hard to find.
Whew,..... nearly a grand!....... Can't help thinking how many knives a grand can buy! [;>)
Thanks myoldkyhome for the great comment -- Navada lots of knives and groceries -- kraft dinner for the kids this month. LOL
I know nothing about trunks, Trunkman. The only thing I know is what I've learned from you guys here on CW. I never knew that old LV trunks were so coveted. Congratulations on your wonderful find, and I look forward to seeing the completed project :-)
Thanks so much Rick! I started collecting in earnest with the information from one book about trunks I had received as a gift. It was not until I posted on this site when the real education began. We have some wonderful knowledgeable people here that are so helpful in the collecting journey. Kudos to our CW friends in any category!

Thanks so much Drill - these are really great to see - helps too know what all of those compartments are for. Thanks again for the superb info.
My Favorite thing T-Man is L.Vuitton's signature on the" Bill of sale"You just don't see his signature very often. Also the stamping of the date that they moved from 454 Strand ( The right side lithograph is the Strand location) to the 149 New Bond location in London. The left lithograph on the bill is 1 Rue Scribe location Paris

Old truck!
Pretty neat pic -- love it - speaking of trucks how often have we seen trunks miss-spelled as trucks for sale -- or is this just me again....

When you finish this one borrow some top hats from Scott to fill it up.
