I find the colour and shapes of this water set so happy and delightful.

Looking at the shapes and bookmark that came with the set this would date to the 1950s, and so is early in Fukuoka's production of hand made glass.
Fukuoka, or FTG, at this stage advertised it's glass as multiple layer, as in multiple coloured glass, clear cased. In the 1960s they started using the name Multi Glass as their trade name, and they still sell under this name. They also use the name Marti Glass, a humorous nod by the Japanese at their pronunciation of multi.

I love the squeezed shape of the jug lip to form the spout. Interestingly the cups have all been flattened on one side after blow moulding to give them their own quirky shape. I haven't seen that before, Fukuoka or otherwise!

Isn't it something that the Japanese can make a simple pitcher and glasses into beautiful art glass? Beautiful Karen!

Thanks for the love and comment Rick. This is just really nice glass I think. Well made, nicely designed, and that bit of Japanese style!

I've come back to these time and again and can't get over that they come from the fifties. The irregular rims to the glasses, the great swathes of colour and the sheer confidence of them. At least a decade of anything similar in the UK......

      Many thanks Sean!

Peggy I think that in many ways the Japanese were more adventurous in glass than the English at this time. It was new to them and they weren't held back by previous mores.
I really hadn't thought about that until your comment - nailed it as usual. Thanks!

What an awesome set. I've looked off and on for years and these are the closest in shape to my glasses that i've found. Love the yellow!
    26. racer4four racer4four, 7 years ago
Thanks KC, and glad I could help you ID your glasses.
I know similar, without the squashed side, were sold under the Kamei label, and other brands at this stage also made this style of glass with colours mixed with white slag glass. If yours have the squashed side it's a good bet they are FTG.
      Enjoy your great glasses!

Thankyou racer for replying, I do have six glasses, 6 small bowls, and one serving bowl. These have been hard to research, but very happy to finally find images that are similar. My dad got them in the early 50's. I dont have great photos up, but yes, all pieces are irregular in shape and the boxes they go in and cards indicating FTG are there along with the store he bought them in.
    28. racer4four racer4four, 7 years ago
LOL Thomas, thanks. A very happy, summery colour.
    29. racer4four racer4four, 7 years ago
KC the irregularity for me speaks of FTG. I have to say however, Japanese glass is difficult to ID without a label or an in hand comparison.
Yours sounds like a noodle set ; great set to have!
