My father gave this piece to me a few years ago. It is my favorite piece and I try to wear it whenever I get the chance. It is all Garnet rosettes. I am not to sure of the actual age of the piece but it looks german edwardian to me, it may be older. Any ideas on age would be much appreciated.
That is truly beautiful. The color is fantastic!
Thank you cindyjune! My father inherited it from a wealthy family friend who passed away. She was from Czechoslovakia and had a passion for jewels.
Do you know whether the metal is gilt and brass, gold, vermeil, or gold wash over silver? That may help place and date the necklace.
I think it is Gilt and Brass
Hello, it's a beautiful piece. My Mother is Czech and has several similar necklaces.
Our Czech family sent a few of them to my Mom as gifts in the 1960's, and we purchased a couple of others when we visited there together, 20 to 30 years ago. This type of garnet necklace would almost certainly find it's origin in the present day Czech Republic. It may date anywhere from the 1940's to the 1960's.
I hope that helps.
Best wishes, Budek
Thank you Budek, it does! I know Mary recieved it maybe in the 40's or early 50's. Maybe before she moved to America.
myvintagewares, I bought my wife a garnet necklace, bracelet, and ring back some 45 years ago. I was told the jewelry was from the late 1930's to the 1940's.
I have posted the jewelry on my show and tell site.
very nice
Sorry to say but Thailand reproduced like crazy and that is what it looks like to me. My sister spent many years as a whole sale jewelry dealer and had a whole line of this exact necklace and other similar. I hope it is old but guessing not. Still beautiful.
Garnets are my favorite, this necklace is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
