Here are a few more pictures of the Taylor XX Sample Trunk I posted a couple days ago. I wanted to show the details of the side handles and hardware as well as the inner label and the tray hinge hardware. The label had some damage, mainly a very large crack down the center, but I patched it up a little and tried not to take away from any of the information listed on the label. Taylor showed their storefront and listed many types of trunks that they made such as bride's trunks, theatrical, ticket, bonnet, ladies dress trunks and many others. The trunk has the original very thick 6 layer leather handles, which I was very happy about because it would be somewhat difficult to change the handles on this trunk. Thanks for visiting!

      Thanks Scott!

Trunkman, I agree and it includes the patent date of Oct 23, 1883, the patent was given to Albert Buckins and Charles Taylor for this style handle holder connected to wood slats and with the built in lid dowel for extra strength and stability. I've seen them with and without the large T on them. Thanks for visiting!

      Cool patent!

Drill, yes, that's a cool patent, but it's not the one for the handle parts. They actually had two patents on the same day, and the other one is called Trunk Fixture, Oct. 23, 1880. I have a copy of the patent in a pdf file but not certain how to post it, but I will learn. :-) You can probably find it and do it quicker than I can... Hahaa! Thanks

Here's the link for the correct patent for the handle hardware. Taylor had a lot of patents over the years.

You're welcome Drill. Thanks for your posts. I also find that some of the patents can be difficult to find for some reason even when you have the correct patent date.
