I was absolutely stunned when I came across this catalogue for sale. It has almost 1,000 pages and is dated 1907.
This would most certainly make an excellent museum piece. In my antique books collection , this is my absolute pride and joy !!!!
A little old lady turning 80 was selling this and she was slowly selling off all her collection. This was the last of her books and she was now starting to sell her old antique linen when I found this.
It has been very well looked after , no foxing to the pages , no damage or anything of any kind, MINT condition.
When it came in the mail , I just kept kissing the parcel, the little old lady was happy to know that it was going to somebody who loves it !
Hi, lovely book! I also bought a Hordern's catalogue, 1913, 1448 pages, not quite mint, from an older (than me)! lady, I offered her $200.00 but she would only accept $60.00! Where was yours offered? What did you pay? I agree, these are fantastic resources,so much insight into the past. Cheers, Mickey
Hi there,
Its actually quite weird that you posted your comment just now. I was in the middle of reading an email from someone who has another one for sale which I hope to buy. I just had mine out to double check on the date ( I keep it in a closed chocolate box ).
You are SOOOOOO Lucky that you got that book for that price !!! I am sooooo jealous. I purchased mine which is dated 1907 for $400. These books are extremely rare especially in tip top condition. I am very lucky that mine is in mint condition which is why I keep it in a covered box. She sent it to me in a whitmans box and said its been in that for years ,so it stays in there. I have also put in them moisture absorbers so the book doesnt get mouldy.
When I got that book i nthe mail I was kissing the parcel hahahah. The little old lady said she was very very happy it was going to somebody who would love it and look after it as much as she did.
I was in a 2nd hand shop yesterday just looking around for anything of value like carnival glass and keeping an eye out for anything with Anthony Hordern written on it. We stepped inside and the first thing I saw near the doorway was this massive object, have no idea what it was, but all the metal or iron on it had a massive label on it bearing Anthony Hordern, I nearly fell over.
I asked the lady how much and she said " $1,995.00" , my daughter nearly fainted, I walked off and another lady in the shop looked at me and we both rolled our eyes lol.
When we got outside I explained to my daughter why they charge so much for these rare things , so now she has her eye on my 1907 catalogue. I said this will go to the child who looks after me in my old age lolol, I have 3 kids.
Anyway, nice to find another who appreciates this sort of antique book, I LOVE them and I have just started collecting the antique books and anything on Anthony Hordern. I have a massive collection of Carnival glass. But love these old catalogues and books.
