Hello CW friends!!!
I saw this very ornate leather covered trunk and had to have it. I've never seen another like it. But, I also have no worldly idea of where or when it was made.
The leather is still in fantastic condition, but still needed a really good cleaning and conditioning with saddle soap. I've never seen this many brass decorations or that many intricate designs before. It's trimmed out in hammered sheet brass and the main decorative designs are also hammered sheet brass. This one also has hand wrought iron handles.
I did a quick relining of the interior, as someone previously had stripped out the original red fabric lining. I finished cleaning it out and relined it with red striped fabric.
I'm hoping that some of you other trunk collectors out there can help me identify this one.
This one measures 24" long, 17" tall and 13" deep.
I do sincerely appreciate you all for stopping in to have a look!!!!
Scott
Wow! lotta nails colors are great,it's a cool keeper.
Thanks Drill!!
Someone already has dibs on it, but I'm not so sure I want to let this one go or not. I may end up keeping this one for myself. I would love to know when and where this one was made. Doesn't look American made.
Scott,
Beautiful leather trunk, and I love the designs with the tacks and brass trim! I agree it's most likely not American made but could be Spanish, or even Middle Eastern, but I don't really know. I've seen a few similar chests or trunks over the years but didn't know for certain where they were made or when. It would be interesting if someone could tell the origin based on the designs and style of the chest. It would be a nice one to keep!
A real beauty js -- almost a cross btw Spanish and Arabic- Moors or even Moroccan - well speculating is half the fun - superb!
Too funny - I realized I said the exact thing Marvin said but used different words... didn't mean to be redundant and say the same thing twice - (pun intended there!) Just got back from Bahrain last week and was visiting with a Sheik and at his palace he had a collection of these ornate trunks, some old some new with this type of studded design... (actually)
Marvin,
Thanks very much! I was leaning toward Spanish. But, since you mentioned Middle East, I'm now thinking that you could be right about that. It does have that Middle Eastern look about it.
T-man,
Thanks friend! That's really very cool! As I mentioned to Marvin, I'm leaning heavily toward Middle East on this one. It has all the characteristics of a Middle Eastern design to it. Thanks again!!
Thanks for the appreciations and loves

My first thought was Spanish for some reason, too! It's a tour de force of design for sure!
Yep - Spanish.

HOLY MOLEY! ($$) Here's a bunch. It could be Italian, English, French or Spanish! (I'm sticking with Spain!)

Celiene,
Yep, I'm with you. I too am leaning toward Spanish now. Especially the handles. They don't look like any English or French design that I've ever seen. I've not seen the Italian design handles, but I'd say Spanish or Middle East.
Thanks very much for the loves and for stopping by for a look
