Hello CW friends!!
I just posted my Aux Etats Unis French trunk. This is the interior of that trunk. I did nothing more than wipe out the interior as it's very fragile and I did not want to damage it in any way. It's sort of difficult to tell by the photos, but the interior is white fabric with red stipes.
I was amazed to find that this trunk still retains both trays as well as the label and lovely ribbon design inside the lid, especially considering the age of this trunk.
Thanks for stopping and having a look!!!
Scott
As I recall, our CindB is a trunk aficionado as well. They are so pretty. :)
Katherine,
Yep, I do believe Cindy has a few herself. Thanks so very much for the comment and the love. Many thanks to you!!
My understanding of the word aficionado is just as you defined yourself, a person who loves something, as the word derives from Spanish for affection. :)
Cindy,
I am FAR from the best here on CW. I wouldn't, and will never, consider myself to be in the BEST category. There are many others here on CW that are far better skilled at this than I am. But, thank you for the wonderful compliment and the lovely comment as well. I'm glad you consider me to be in that category. I do sincerely appreciate it!!
Katherine,
In that case, I would consider many of us here on CW to be aficionados:)
Thank you Cindy!!! You're way too kind!

Drill,
Thanks very much friend!! I can only dream of owning that stack:) I was told that the label in this one is the first style label used in this brand. So, I'd love to see if the trunk style changed as the years progressed with this brand.
Thanks very much everyone for the loves, kind comments and for dropping by

Hey Scott, Some food for thought(the pondering),I could be wrong but, I believe that the L. Gerard label that I posted could be slightly earlier.I like to call them transitional labels, if you will. The reason I say this is Maison (meaning -House) C. Rouselle would be the master craftsman malletier that L. Gerard is the successeur (Succ' is the abbreviation) to the established house.or merged with: Many times though this was where they apprenticed, then worked and then took over for the aging malletier or started their own house. This was a way of showing respect to
the house where you were trained or were working from. There are other examples of this; The same way that Louis Vuitton acknowledged
starting at the house of Marechal. M. Walcker worked in the house of Bazar du Voyage -Alexis Godillot founded in 1843 , H.A. Winship was succeeded by William H. Winship ,who was later succeeded by William W. Winship etc. Respect to the elder or more senior was typically acknowledged and displayed.Craft was very generational during this age.It was also on a smaller scale especially in France.
Drill,
I would most definitely say you're correct about that label. I conversed with Jean-Pierre Bal, of BelMal.be archives and he said that this was one of the oldest example of the L. Gerard that he had seen, but not the oldest out there. I believe L. Gerard later moved from the address on the label that you posted, to the location on this label. I could be wrong about that though.

Thank you both so very much for the loves and for dropping by.
Jean-Pierre Bal is correct in saying that it is one of the oldest , I just think it's neat to see the images of the trunks on the labels- reversed. As well as other names on a makers label. The address 229 Rue St. Honore is danger close to Goyard 335 Rue St. Honore in the 8th district of paris.

It always amazes me how some makers survived even to this day while other concerns perished.
