Estate sale purchase of a vintage wool coat. Know very little about it other than it's old, it's heavy!, and it's beautiful!
Very dark, navy blue wool with red trim (piping) on the epaulettes and wrist cuffs. It's double-breasted with 3x2 gold buttons on the front and two buttons on the half belt on back. Smaller identical buttons (5) in the wedge back vent. On each of the shoulder epaulettes there is what appear to be major golden oak leaf insignias. The entire inner lining is black satin.
The coat has absolutely no markings. Did find on the back of the gold buttons "Bomisa Milano" (which I suspect to be the button manufacturer?). The figure on each button appears to be some type of pot or kettle with either flames or steam from the top flowing sideways.
From what I've been able to find on-line (which isn't much) this coat might be an Italian military police carabinieri wool overcoat.
Any help you're able to provide is appreciated. Please see the photos for greater detail. Thanks!
If you ever find out more information on this coat, I would like to know. I have the exact same one in black!
Hi - realize these posts are years old - but i also have the same coat, purchase 30 years ago at a Sausalito flea market, wonder if either of you ever found anything out about it?
