So, I had never set out to own a Jenny Lind trunk, but there it was staring me down, and it won. I've come across them before smaller ones. It just wasn't on my menu until today and I saw this one. For some reason it clicked that this is part of history in a big way, I mean these were made before the discovery of the Valley of Kings. A time almost unfathomable today. So as I stared it down, the longer I did, the more I realized it was winning and ended up in my car. Of course there are better cleaner ones but something about this one in particular grabbed me. (Maybe the very minute price tag had a hand in it as well).
Thing is I don't know what to do with it now. The leather is actually in good shape aside from the giant cut out square in the front, LOL. And the lock being broken, but I like seeing the working mechanism of it. The handles I will replace with period ones. That leather though is better in person than in pics. The banding is brass covered and some pieces are missing. It's so thick and heavy, way bigger than I thought they were made. Simply because my simple mind didn't allow for expansion of this until I saw it. I just can't believe these were made so long ago. I am in awe of it. So I had to share!!! I will post again when I've cleaned it and decided what I should do with it. Any more info or ideas are more than welcome!

      B.Kay,
What a beauty!! Leather covered trunks are my favorites. I know it'll look amazing when you finish cleaning it and working your magic with it.
I have a brass Jenny Lind lock cover plate that you can have. Email me your address and I'll mail it to you. No charge to fellow trunk enthusiast!!

What a great find! This is going to be beautiful cleaned up. Sometimes I just stain the wood the same brown as the missing leather -- just adds to the charm of a piece in my books. My conversation with myself would have been much shorter -- "Take it" HA! I rarely pass these up but price point does matter...
All the best in the season!

Trunk man thank you so much! What a great idea that's exactly what I'm going to do. I think that will look best for this one. It's huge, I didn't realize they were made this big. Or how sought after they are. I paid less than $50 for it. So that was a good price. Sometimes I wish I could get you guys in a room with some of these things!
Thanks for the advice trunkman. : )

Fat Boy64, everyone has said that today! LOL
OK I don't fly or drive hundreds of miles for a trunk.
When is the line crossed between addiction and hobby?
      Hahahahaha!!!!

Have you bought a trunk even though you don't have room for it or know what you're going to do with it? That's a dead giveaway. Once you get to that point you just as well start all your posts in here with "Hi, I'm (state your name here) and I'm a trunk addict". LOL

Bwahahaha! Of course I have, I have trunks I have not posted on here, . . Yet. And I plan to make a cool recessed trunk wall for my treasures with each one on a roll out shelf!
Just the other day a friend of mine asked how I got into this unusual collection. LOL it wasn't with the first trunk. It was the first time a seemingly no where conversation took me into a garage of horrors to find a gem in the back corner of what looked like garbage, and she just gave it to me.
It's a treasure hunt, tangible with real rewards, a piece of history, with variables as big as my shoe closet! It just happens to be a huge object that smells like moth balls, and like you put half of the Titanic in your living room everytime you come home. Throw those shop lights on it, grab some steel wool just to see what's brass, wait ya know what,
HI my name is Brandi and I'm a trunk addict!!!
      Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!
