By 1981 instead of following and continuing photographing singers, I started to do black and white portraits and my first sitting was with a girl called Laura, a 17 year old girl I met at the dance club. She wanted a photo of herself showing her nails, so most of the photos were variations of this photo. I am showing this one full frame, there was no after work on the shadow as it was photographed with 2 flash units.
I wanted to make Laura look like she was a glamour queen from the 1950's and we pretty much accomplished that with the boa found in my large antique trunk. I did a purple tint to the black and white photo. Originally the colour photo was painted with Dr. Martins airbrush watercolours. This is the last scan that I will do of this photo. The goal is to scan most of my negatives this year. Recently Laura found me on the aminus internet and we are friends again online. We had lost contact with each other over the many years after about later eighties. She was happy to see these photos again when I found the negatives about a week ago. She was very surprised last week when I gave her photo 3 which neither of us had seen before on the negatives. When we first did the photos her uncles and her relatives were ordering quite a few large 20X24 photos which I painted. It was one of my most lucrative sittings so I was very happy with the beauty of Laura in the photo !~
