I found this little purse at the thrift store today. It is entirely made of metal and it does open up. I have not seen a little coin purse made like this before And would be interested to see if anyone has any info on it. Hope you enjoy
That's beautiful! All handmade filigree, possibly from Indonesia.
Ok-thanks for the info!!
I would not be surprised if the metal wire used to produce this was silver. I ran an auction for several years, and almost every example we saw of this style of work was made from silver. Very cool find....
I was wondering if it could be silver. Would it be marked if it was? I looked it over a bit but did not see any markings.
I say silver too! It's very cute and larger than I expected.
It is not uncommon for pieces like this to not be marked as to silver content. In other instances the mark can be difficult to locate. If you have a magnifying glass, look everywhere for it. Sometimes, if present, they are hidden quite well.
Ok-thank you for that info, welzebub and shareurpassion!!
Also look on the tiny ends of the hinges. You may even need a loupe. Taking it outside in the day while you stay under the shade, a stamp does tend to reveal itself.
Use a magnet to see if it sticks to it. . Gold, brass, copper, and silver won't stick. This is the cutest lil thing! Love it!
I did try the magnet test and it does stick a little bit-not a very strong pull though, so I guess it is some other metal. Thanks for the info, shareurpassion and lamplover78.
Amazing find! Love it!
