This was hanging in the back end of the shop in Maastricht, wedged between various other paintings/prints and whatnots. I've seen numerous variations of these portraits and not all of them were signed. Looking online at these, I see they're listed as being 19th Century. The clothing and jewelry of this lady are of the Tudor period.
I imagine the portrait is painted on a piece of porcelain. The "glass" is either very thin or not glass. It's totally clear - no scratches, no nothing.
So, who knows about these miniatures?

Thanks for any help, CW friends!
    Bonnie

Hel1 - I was quite surprised to find it! I hadn't been to Maastricht in more than 1 1/2 weeks, and just happened to be there today at the right time.

@filmnet - I noticed that while I was looking for comparable ones. There seem to be very few of them anywhere online right now.

Do you think it could be Queen Victoria?
    10. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
bill - I'm sure it's not Victoria. Her clothes and jewelry are of the Tudor period, which was between 1485 and 1603. Would be nice if this portrait was that old!!

      Tudor era clothing and jewelry:

      http://www.uvm.edu/~hag/sca/tudor/kideliz.jpg

      The Young Elizabeth, c. 1546
An example of the sleeve head appearing to be attached directly to the bodice armscye and of the false under-sleeve material matching the underskirt. The pointed waist and apparent absence of a center seam make it difficult to imagine this gown would have a front closure, hidden or otherwise.

      Really nice find!
She's pretty, but upstaged by the frame in my personal opinion.
