Took a tour of the USS Iowa a while ago and I was looking through my photo albums for some classic car photos I ran into these.
One should note I am a big fan of battleships and that just about everything History and the Military Channel said about them is wrong. They were not fragile eggshells extremely vulnerable to aircraft. Only four of what were called modern battleships (post 1940) were sunk by aircraft carriers. Plus four carriers were sunk by battleships. This goes on for a while.
Anyway back to the Iowa which is now in San Pedro Harbor in Los Angeles. The battle bridge was a little tower inside the ship. It goes from where are the little windows are above B Turret to deep within the ship.
Not everything on the ship is armored only key sections thus when bombs shells etc start flying the people who run the ship go in here. The walls are over a foot of hardened steel. The periscope device to see outside is seen in photo 4.
The guns were all controlled by radar so there wasn't much of a need to see outside.

Thank you very much beyemvey. I don't think they could get it to Wisconsin so it is your gain.

Thank you very much Newfld. That is a great story. I hear that one is especially good because it is set up in WWII configuration.
