I spent part of 1967 and most of 1968 touring The Orient at the expense of the US Government. In Olongapo, Philippines, at that time, every souvenir shop (there were many because of the large naval base at Subic Bay) had a large bin full of these carved "peace hands" - hundreds in each bin and each one individually carved and unique.
The hands are carved from Philippine mahogany and are found in many sizes. Those shown here vary in size from 2 1/2" to 8".
Love these, My brother in-law brought me the small one (maybe a little taller) back from the same place and time he was on the USS Kittyhawk. Great to see these all together.
Peace
