These are the the last set of 4 pictures I took of the 4 lamps I bought in 1991. Go to the first set of four which is the previous post here on CW. The set of four lamps are all marked Tiffany Studios New York. These are institution size so taller than most Tiffany lamps I have seen. Six and 1/2 feet in height.

The Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina, Saskatchewan was doing a large renovation of the historic hotel in 1991 and selling off most of the furnishings in Saskatoon by the Great West auction. Most was sold by fixed price and there were many desks and desk lamps from the 1970's. On the second day I came back after work and there were 4 of these extremely heavy lamps together and my heart sank I wanted them so bad. They were only priced at 100 dollars each and had gold and black paint on them so I had thought they were just metal lamps. Because of the weight no person had turned them upside down to see the Tiffany stamps on them. I was very nervous as they were being delivered and at one point or two I thought they were never coming and they might have decided not to sell them. They sat in a storeroom for a few months and then I decided to use them. When I turned them over, just then did I notice the Tiffany Studio marks. After taking off some of the paint I noticed gold tones and then hired a lamp worker to restore them to their former glory for 2 months, which was mostly removal of the paint and dirt.

The last photo shows the Tiffany studios mark as I laid them across my chairs.

These lamps are like no other and were made for this historic hotel, they are the only ones known to exist. They look Deco, they look art nouveau, they look gothic and would even work in a Victorian or Regency or Empire interior !! In 2007 I had them verified by an expert in NYC as being original Tiffany lamps. The base alone shows the most beautiful frond base I had ever seen. That moment was like being at The Antique Roadshow and getting a massive estimate of my treasure !!

The Hotel Saskatchewan is a historic hotel, one of Canada's grand railway hotels located in downtown Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, overlooking Victoria Park. They must have commissioned these Tiffany lamps by 1925 to 1926 sometime as the hotel was opening in the fall of 1927 !

I believe this is part of what makes collecting very unique items like your lamps so exciting. I can't imagine how many others couldn't see the treasure that was right in front of their eyes. You saw something special past the paint and dirt and then struck the mother lode. Excellent!! Love the base.

Hi Phil, What a fantastic story and amazing find! 100 dollars doesn't sound much money even for non a Tiffany lamp like this.
