    (137 items)

This item is 29 inches long. One end is blunt, the other has a square hole about 1 3/8 inches across. In the centre it divides into 4 narrower bars. Is this simply some kind of valve key or part of a machine that connects to a drive. Any ideas?

First time seeing this, is it an antique cast iron spire or rooftop finial? Just a guess nobody else has! :^D I hope that you already know! :^)

I later posted an update for this item when I had discovered its purpose. This bar was part of the workings of a mill. As it rotated, the four central bars hit a rod connected to a hopper which caused the hopper to vibrate as the grain was fed into the grinding stones.

Thanks for that Irishcollector, I'm happy to know that! :^D It would make a nice Rooftop Finial though! Direct any lightning strikes right to the house! Insurance companies would love it! Not! :^)
