"ADOLPHUS BUSCH 1887" Wood Crate. I am not sure on the age/history of this but thought it was unique that it reads "ADOLPHUS BUSCH" instead of "ANHEUSER BUSCH."

The pictures are to dark to see the joinery or hardware but from what I can see, it is a keeper.
I'm undecided. They did a new series in the 70's for collectors etc.. I wonder why a brewery would put the year on it.
Beautiful! The logo makes me a bit puzzled, though. The brewery was named Anheuser-Busch already 8 years earlier, in 1879. So I wonder if the name refers to the brewery itself. Nothing in the history of the Anheuser-Busch brewery makes the year 1887 particularly significant. Adolphus Busch did however buy a glasssware factory in 1886, It was operational and listed first time in the city directories in 1887 as the Adolphus Busch Glass Works. By 1889, the plant was listed as the Adolphus Busch Glass Co. IMO, the crate does look genuine and indeed older than the 1970's, though not necessarily from 1887 but could the name Adolphus Busch be referring to the glass works? Maybe it was used to ship empty bottles to be filled?
I had a somewhat different train of thought. I wonder to myself if this box might have held his private stock. What little I can see of the joinery is so bad it makes me think this wasn't a reproduction.
