I can't figure out the mark. Maybe someone here will recognise its style and ID the plate's
    Maker
    Age
    Name

Thank you for any help you can give.

Hopefully it was worth $4. I don't usually give so much for a plate, but at half-of its $8 sticker I decided to go for it as it would (does) look good on the wall.

I can't help (AT ALL) with the questions but think it's well worth the $4 paid easy I would guess closer to 10x that seems to have some good age to it and great looking.
    2. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
Plates have crashed in value. Worth 10 times less now than 10 years ago. That is shows the aging also affects its value.
I just really liked the scene and colours. The tanish colour is unique.
    3. PoliticalPinbacks PoliticalPinbacks, 8 years ago
BOTTOM shelf "things" seem to crash around u LOL ;}~~
    4. PoliticalPinbacks PoliticalPinbacks, 8 years ago
Agree love the scene and color.

10 mins ago I unplugged my fan and the outlet sparked. LOL.
Material items do not like me.

I found out that it's not good to use wire plate holders to hold plates against the wall. They will scratch the finish on the plate, sometimes wearing the material away. Better to display them on a flat surface using a plate display stand.

Thank you, Gillian. I have rubber grips on mine.

It almost looks like the bottom mark was double stamped, and shifted a little, makes it hard to read! :^)
    9. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
It might be that. Otherwise, it might be in another language, like German or Hungarian.
    10. PoliticalPinbacks PoliticalPinbacks, 8 years ago
? I snagged the image and played with it, close as Ican see it reads:
      JAW AUT. NEWSH
      BOVN MAN
I googled that and parts of it changing some letters and found notta
You might be able to use light and different angles to make it out better then play with the image.
      Greek to me.

We're just not gonna have luck finding this plate. LOL.

I love the scene on the plate!
    14. Karenoke Karenoke, 8 years ago
I think the mark in question is upside down. I think the letters in the middle are WY ...look at the marks on the center letters that generally indicate top or bottom.
      Just my thoughts.
      Nice plate with nice colors!
    15. PoliticalPinbacks PoliticalPinbacks, 8 years ago
Sure looks like WY upside down so then MAN is NAW but lost on the rest
    16. Karenoke Karenoke, 8 years ago
So happy you agree PoliticalPinbacks. There is also a number 8 right above the WY and another number under it. I think they are both 8's but one is not clear enough to be sure. Wonder if it's an 8" plate?

I've been waiting for someone with more knowledge of European marks or more time to look for it than me - hasn't happened yet, so here goes. This is almost certainly a German mark and a German scene. In that ring of words surrounding what is being called WY, at the bottom just above the U, is the word RHEIN, the German spelling for the Rhine River. Narrowing the search within German marks may be helpful.
    18. Karenoke Karenoke, 8 years ago
      Good job Artfoot!
Do you agree with the WY?
    19. PoliticalPinbacks PoliticalPinbacks, 8 years ago
Well done artfoot surely nobody was going to make anything from my mumbojumbo I guessed and hoped google would suggest something better it didn't
    20. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
I just cannot read the mark. The plate was done by a coloured engraving. The lines are hatched in, and the engraver decided to outline some rocks that he forgot to colour.
I was pretty sure it was German or Austrian. As for when, though, we still cannot tell.
As for its size, the plate is 10 and one half inches across.

Found the mark, VERY OLD mark, the plate? The mark is attributed to
      Clemens August of Bavaria - German: 17 August 1700 – 6 February 1761
WELL 10x the value could be very low!!!
1st the mark found here: #8
      http://www.oldandsold.com/pottery/germany2.shtml
I snagged and blew the image up however it gets rather fuzzy.

Clemens August of Bavaria (German: Clemens August von Bayern) (17 August 1700 – 6 February 1761) was a member of the Wittelsbach dynasty of Bavaria and Archbishop-Elector of Cologne.
      Above is from:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clemens_August_of_Bavaria

Seems to be a VERY old mark but I hit a dead end.
      Your turn detective gadget LOL
    22. PoliticalPinbacks PoliticalPinbacks, 8 years ago
may have mis-read that link as 7, 8 is more like 2nd half 18th century
    23. Karenoke Karenoke, 8 years ago
Wow, you all did a great job!
      Nice pick there SpiritBear!
    24. artfoot artfoot, 8 years ago
You found the mark - I wasn't buying WY - now we know it is FAM. FAM for Franz Anton Mehlem of Bonn am Rhein. A little bit about the interpretation of that mark - Mehlem Porcelain was established by Clemens August sometime in the 1700s but remained in business through most of the 20th Century. This plate more than likely dates from 1900-30.
    25. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
Political Pinbacks, that was some very good sleuthing!

Karenoke, I got it from a favourited antiques dealer who is retiring. She seems the sweet old 'granny type'-- you know that stereotype, cute and sweet and always nice-- but I once saw her explode at a banker over the phone, and I became slightly frightened by her anger that morning. LOL. Usually, though, she's really nice.
ArtFoot, I agree with you. I was thinking the plate was circa 1910 based on its style, with a deviation of about 20 years.

Thank you all for helping narrow down the age and thank you for figuring out the maker.

Good job you guys! :^) So that's a backwards F and AM
    27. PoliticalPinbacks PoliticalPinbacks, 8 years ago
Happy and surprised I was any help at all but I just did a little of the leg work Artfoot did all the brain work a real wealth of knowledge artfoot is.
So you think the dark color around the edge is tarnish or by design? I think it looks way better having it there either way
    28. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
Thank you for your interest, Political Pinbacks.
The dark colour is by design.
