While driving through South Dakota a couple years ago, we stopped into a rock shop and I spotted this unusual 11½” polished slab of petrified wood. I don’t recall if the specimen is oak, spruce, sycamore (or whatever) wood; regardless, the interior looks like a swimming fish. The tree was probably really old and the heartwood already hollowing out when it fell and compressed into this unusual shape before the petrification process. Anyhow, I couldn’t resist such an enjoyable piece.
Thanks, BB2!
