Thrift-store find. At first I thought it reproduction flow-blue, as it has blurred repeated images, but then I realised it was hand-done paint, not a transfer.
I also noted stilt marks on the base, sides, and interior.
Also, knife marks have damaged the glaze in the bottom.
A few brown cracks, which may possibly suggest older damage (or recent damage and some brown liquid).
Bowl shows that strips of clay were used to build it up layer by layer.
So, my questions are:
Is it of any age?
Where is it from?
What is the scene?
Wow, I like this very much, seems Japanese, English ?, maybe late Victorian, early 1900's, just my opinion. I know I would have snapped it up in a heartbeat.
I almost didn't pick it up to even inspect it, as I see so much reproduction stuff all the time. LOL.
this is japanese - the stencil-type design is common there. also - that lower border is seen alot.
unfortunately it,s transfer
it may sound strange but this is also a karako scene , only not a chasing the butterfly scene
