Thrift-store finds today.
3 bear-cubs(?), one looking angry as sin, another animatedly telling his excitement in the story to his happy bespectacled friend in a nice suit.
Also, a barrel with either a "D" or an "I in C" mark on the bottom.
I'd like to know:
Age
and
Story for bears <3
cute, I don't see the anger, I see the center bear reading "The three bears" and one be animated when telling that, I see the left bear deeply pondering the story as he smoke his pipe and the bear on the right a little worried as he tries to read without getting too close with his muzzle glasses finely focused ;p
The Story: Are ya all tucked in?
Once upon a time... LOL
Westmoreland Glass 'Roosevelt Bears'
the barrel is likely a toothpick holder; don't know who dunnit...
The middle bear looks more like a fox with the sun shining through the glass, or is it just me? But a very cute plate, nice find!
I was thinking a little Fox or even Wolf like too but as it's the Roosevelt bears and a S.B. says bears who an I to say lol
Little Red Riding Hood or wait, isn't it Goldie Locks??? OK, who's the one with the 3 bears??? Lol!!!
an identical plate posted on Pinterest states that the bear plate was made by Westmoreland, a separate post on RubyLane also indicates Westmoreland, and dates it to around 1905. Searching "Westmoreland Bear Plate" finds numerous examples, wish some variations, including a full-color painted one and one in what appears to be jadeite. All of them are dated c.1905
If you enlarge/zoom in on the bears, there's a spectacular amount of detail...for example the rightmost bear is not only wearing spectacles, but you can see the chain between them and his lapel. Its very very cool.
I've seen a lot with the 3 kittens, SpiritBear, but I don't remember seeing this one, nice! :^)
Political Pinbacks, by the time you wrote that I was. LOL. He looks T'd off to me!
I know, they don't quite look like bears, but they are. <3
Tall Cakes, thank you for your quick identification.
Karenoke, they look like cubs, pups, and kits!
Share Ur Passion, it was Goldy Locks with the three bears.
Meowman, thank you for taking the time to look into it. I was thinking of painting it, actually. The details are indeed good on it.
Bill, kittens have been very popular for over 100 years, but bears still win me over.
