From a Estate sale lot a Kyô-Satsuma Ware Miniature Vase with Design of Dragons and Arhats. Signed on the bottom Great Japan, Ch?sh?zan, Satsuma, Painted by Sadatomo made at the Ch?shuzan Workshop in Kyoto Japan painted by Sadatomo late 19th century. size about 4 inches
I'm starting to get into Satsuma vases. I have learned one important thing: buy
the ones of religious themes or maidens with hand maidens seem to sell quick. I use to buy and sale but now I keep the satsuma's with figures which have the gold or yellow halo around their heads. They seem to command higher prices and sale quick. Any thoughts or knowledge on this?
I general that is true satsuma with a religious themes deity's or with Geisha or even warriors. can command a higher price.it also depends on how many figures are on the piece. But i wouldn't pass up pieces without figures they can command higher prices also due to the quality of the workmanship and who the artist is. I generally when I buy Satsuma I am looking at the quality of the workmanship and who the artist is more than if it has figures or not.
well when it is chozuzan , which it is probably , you probably got a SCHOOL MARK also
