LYRIC OPERA
Erte began his career doing stage designs in Paris in the ‘30s. By 1968 -- when this poster was done -- he was a living icon of the deco era. In this poster he returns to his roots in theatre. Using his signature art deco style, Erte bridges the tradition of a great deco poster design while at the same time making it very contemporary with the almost-psychedelic colors of the swinging – sixties.
A spectacular poster. It is interesting that even though he is one of the top Art Deco designers, in fact, there are only three actual posters that were used that he is known to have designed. This one is a real find!

This is really a rare and great poster. I've only seen it in an Erte catalogue. You are lucky to find an original!
I am curious how much you paid for this? I found this poster at an antique shop framed for $280 and loved it but knew nothing about the artist. From what I have seen it is hard to find and may be a good deal on a lovely piece of art.
Its 45 years and going to be 46 years old.
That was my roommate trying to be smart, I asked him when you posted the picture, then he got a sheepish look on his face. Beautiful poster by the way.
Sorry!!! It is very beautiful:)
I looked for this rare poster for my collection. Hard to find. For less than a thousand, it's a steal! Congrats! I was always a big Erte fan when it came to his theatre sets and deco designs. Funny that he only did three known ORIGINAL posters, this being one of the three.
Hi, i actually have three of these posters i found folded up in a 68 Saturday Evening Post !
This poster is brilliant. It takes all Art deco elements and brings them up to date in a sexy, swinging-sixties, psychedelic-like feeling. It flows brilliantly. An iconic design!
I picked up the Erte Lyric Opera poster at an auction for 550 two years ago. My husband and I keep it in our living room. We love it!
