I love, love, love this ashtray!!!
It has a couple chips and I don't care, I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water....if you know what I mean.
But I'm very interested in any thoughts you all may have as to it's age, origin and maker?
    Thanks Gang!

Japanese decoration so it must be Chinese, they both smoke a lot still. Fascinating ashtrays, strange how much I love ashtrays also ! A beauty.

      Thank you Phil!
So you feel like this is not vintage?
I know it’s in nice enough shape to be new.
      How are you?
      I’m a poet...lol, who didn’t know it.

Hi Karen, and Happy New Year! :^D
I just saw this! To me it looks like 1940's-50's California pottery. A lot of the potteries were doing Oriental themed pottery then, and used this type of applied slip "foliage in relief" finish. Also many did smoking related items, ashtrays, cigarette boxes, and lighters, because so many military personal, smoked after WWII. It reminds of some of the things that Marc Bellaire, Max Weil, and others were doing at the time. Hope this helps, and thanks for posting! :^)

Here's a Weil Ware vase with a similar design :^)

      Oh wow, thank you Bill!
It’s early morning and the house is quiet, I’m going to check it out now.
I suspected it was not new, but other than the couple of chips it appears to be unused.
Happy New Year to you as well!

Thanks, on line, or in books, I do see a lot of good crap, hell I just have to look over my shoulder! :^D You're always welcome to any help I can give Karen, and I think yours is prettier too!(and not crap) lol :^)

Hey Bill, I so understand the...look over your shoulder comment, my daughter in law said being in my home was like being in a museum....lol
But keep in mind, she’s in her late 20’s so items from the 80’s are old to her.
      Thanks again!
