I found this today at Goodwill. I wasn't even looking for a dresser, but for $8 I could not pass it up. I was/am going to paint it and put it my bedroom; however, before I do so, I want to make sure it's not an antique. It's solid, for the most part, and pretty heavy. It does not have any dovetail joints on it. Someone has replaced the original handles over time as you can see where they have filled the holes on the outside. It has four small casters on it too. Most noticeably is the tin on the underside of it. Underneath the very bottom drawer (if you flip it over) has a tin inlay. Someone said it was used to keep rodents out. It needs to restained on top at a minimum and if it is something old I will not paint it and just restain it.I can post more pictures if needed. Can anyone give me an idea of what time period it was built in and the type of wood?
By those pics, it looks plenty old enough that *I* wouldn't even *think* about "painting" it...leastways until a little more might be learned about it...?? <eeek>
Can't really tell what kinda wood it is, but its styling looks early 1900's-ish to me -- refinish it if absolutely necessary, find some more correct handles, and it'd likely be GORGEOUS for your $8??!!! <applause>
I so agree with the above comment.
Very nice find, even better deal...or steal at 8.00....wow!
